Rod Beherns is rarely in his office. Every day, he is out in the field, showing Dream homebuyers their new home and making sure their needs are met and they are satisfied with their purchase. He has appointments lined up with 90-day walkthroughs (which take place 90 days after a customer has purchased a home), appointments with contractors who need access to homes, and emergency visits to customers for issues such as leaking windows or water in their basement.
He does this every day, and loves every minute of it. “My favourite part of my job is meeting different people,” he says. “People are appreciative of the work that you do, and the work that Dream does, and that’s what makes your day.”
Rod has been a Customer Service Manager in Saskatoon for three years, after being a Service Technician for five years, and every day he continues to strive to set Dream apart from the competition through excellent service. “It’s the little things. Everybody is building good houses, but it’s the small things that make a difference. It’s how you treat people.”

This is an approach that Rod experiences at work, too. “This is the best company I’ve ever worked for, and I’ve worked for a few,” he laughs. “It’s how they treat you as a person. You come to work, and you can just tell that people are happy. It’s a happy atmosphere, and people go out of their way to introduce themselves to you. It’s a very different place.”
Since joining Dream, Rod has been directly contributing to building better communities. To him, this means building communities that residents enjoy living in, where people know their neighbours and have parks and other spaces that foster community building. He gets feedback from homebuyers to make sure that he can continue to improve the service he and his team provide, and to ensure that the communities Dream builds are always the best they can be.
“People are very appreciative,” he says of the feedback he’s received. “It’s good to hear that you’re making an impact and that it’s positive.”
Rod joined the company after moving back to Saskatoon from Prince Albert, when a hockey dad he knew asked him if he would be interested in joining Dream. “You betcha I would,” Rod remembers saying.
Today, he continues to take obvious pride in what he does and on the impact he can have on people at such an important moment of their life. “I love my job, I love what I do, I love dealing with people, and always have,” says Rod. “If you love your job and love getting up for it in the morning, then what else do you need?”
