Here’s what’s noteworthy about Brighton Village

City council endorsed changes on Wednesday that will allow a developer to move forward with a village concept for the developing neighbourhood of Brighton.

Here are some of the novel aspects of the village concept for the east Saskatoon community. The village will serve as a focal point for Brighton, which is expected to one day become Saskatoon’s largest neighbourhood, home to 15,000 people in about 2026.

CAMPUS LIFE

In the conceptual drawings for the neighbourhood’s village, almost no motorized vehicles appear. Many of the renderings look more like a college campus than a traditional neighbourhood. That’s intentional, according to Brad Zurevinski, general manager of Saskatoon’s Dream Development, which is developing the neighbourhood.

FUTURE IS HERE

Council gave unanimous approval to the concept plan; several councillors praised it. Zurevinski said the village will serve as a “flagship” and a model for future mixed-use neighbourhoods developed by Dream. The village concept includes office and retail components, as well as 200 to 300 apartment or townhouse dwellings.

Visionary Community of Brighton Opens September 10th!

The countdown is on as Brighton, Saskatoon’s newest master-planned community, is officially opening its doors on September 10th!

A visionary community, Brighton is the ideal place to live, work, learn, shop and play. Brighton is redefining what it means to be connected by integrating homes, parks, and commercial and retail space. And with close proximity to schools, transit and the city centre, Brighton has something to suit every lifestyle.

With walking and biking trails connecting the community, it’s easy to get around and explore everything Brighton has to offer. The kid-at-heart will love Brighton’s 82 acres of parks, including an open-air amphitheatre, playgrounds, toboggan hill, spray park and more! If you’re up for an adventure, get up close and personal with nature at Brighton’s 41 acres of ponds and wetlands to learn more about the community’s constructed wetland complex. With 250,000 square feet of retail space, Brighton will bring your favourite restaurants and shops to your doorstep.

Why not experience Brighton and its features firsthand at the brand new, state-of-the-art Brighton Information Centre? The Information Centre is launching September 10 and is unlike anything you’ll find in Saskatoon, or Saskatchewan for that matter! With virtual reality stations situated throughout the 4,800 square foot space, visitors can explore the community through interactive touchpoints. The Information Centre will serve as a hub to the community, acting as a gathering spot for future community activities and events. Meet with an on-site community ambassador for more information and get a glimpse into what life at Brighton will be like.

September 10 is also the grand opening of Brighton’s Parade of Homes, where you can tour all the unique housing styles available in the community, built by some of Saskatchewan’s premium builders. Whether you’re a recent graduate wanting a place of your own, a first time buyer looking to start a family, an entrepreneur seeking the convenience of condo living, or an empty nester wanting to downsize, there’s a home for you in Brighton with a variety of single family homes, townhomes and condos to choose from. Builder sales representatives will be on hand so you can find out more about the unique home styles available in the Brighton community.

Conservation Runs Through It

This June, our team visited elementary classrooms of grades 4 – 7 and did an exciting and interactive presentation on the wetland complexes we are building within our Brighton community.

We supplied each of the classrooms with a cardboard filing box that contained items from a local craft store that would assist them in building a diorama, using the box, to create their rendition of a wetlands complex.  Materials included were:  sand, rocks, molding clay, paints, moss, twigs, paints, glue, tape, pipe cleaners, animal cut outs, animal figures, styrofoam, etc.

Each of the classrooms had a week to build the dioramas, and once complete we went back out to each classroom to take some group pictures with the finished projects and awarded them with passes to go to any one of the several Saskatoon Leisure Centre’s that have a water park.

The kids and teachers expressed that they very much enjoyed the presentation and building the projects. One teacher has asked to have the diorama back so they can showcase it in their school library to teach future children about wetlands and the importance that they play in our environment and communities.
