In 2014, Dream became the first and only National Corporate Sponsor of the Shoebox Project for Shelters, a national organization that brightens the lives of women living in shelters by giving them shoeboxes filled with small gift items they would not buy themselves.
The shoeboxes are decorated and filled by Canadians from coast to coast, giving them a chance to give back to their community and increase their awareness about women’s homelessness and its related factors, such as abuse, poverty, and mental illness. By becoming the National Corporate Sponsor, Dream is providing the Shoebox Project with the means to hire administrative resources, such as a national coordinator who will oversee the organization’s growth.
For the 2014 holiday season, Dream employees laid the groundwork for new chapters in Saskatchewan by organizing the first shoebox drives in Regina and Saskatoon, in another great example of how we build better communities. Staff in other cities, from Halifax to Calgary, also made and collected shoeboxes to contribute to local women’s shelters.
